WSS | New technology introduced to chip breaker groove tool processing camshaft bore

2019-06-10

When our customer, a gasoline engine company processes the camshaft bore, the aluminum chips generated during the process continuously wrap around the tool arbor and cause tool damage. The damaged tool can cause scratches on the bore wall, which greatly affects the quality of the processed product

In order to avoid tool breakage caused by aluminum chips during machining, we need to optimize the design of the tool. We added a chip breaker on the position of PCD cutting edge. The chip breaker is not only functional as an additional deformation to the chips, but also has an important influence on the shape and the breaking of the chips. In the cutting process, the different shapes and sizes of the chip breakers and the inclination angle between the chip breaker and the main cutting edge can be used to control the curling and breaking of the chips. This is a key technology to ensure the processing quality and improve production efficiency in mechanical processing, especially in automated production

WSS has accumulated a lot of valuable experience in the optimization of tool applications, and is committed to continuous improvement of tools and improved tool applications. With over a decade professional research and practice in tool application and optimization, we have mature technology to improve the tool considering the individual circumstances for our customers

WSS uses the DMG MORI LASERTEC 20 laser device to achieve a perfect cutting edge without gaps and geometric shaping of complex cutting edges. As a result, our products with chip breaker offer unique advantages in processing and good processing performance. In response to the problems arising from the processing under different conditions, WSS is fully committed to helping customers solve on-site processing problems and has now reached customer requirements
